Supervisor II, Laboratory

Job description

A clinical laboratory is seeking an experienced Hematology Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily operations within a high-complexity testing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily hematology laboratory operations and testing workflow
  • Monitor specimen processing, testing accuracy, and result reporting timelines
  • Ensure staff adherence to laboratory procedures, policies, and quality assurance standards
  • Track departmental performance metrics and address operational issues affecting productivity or turnaround time
  • Identify and implement opportunities for workflow improvement and operational efficiency
  • Provide bench coverage when operational needs require
  • Provide guidance, training oversight, and competency support for laboratory staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations and competency assessments
  • Assist with hiring, promotions, coaching, and disciplinary actions when needed
  • Support professional development planning for team members
  • Review timecards, approve time off requests, and maintain accurate personnel records
  • Participate in laboratory quality improvement initiatives including incident review, CAP surveys, and turnaround time monitoring
  • Ensure compliance with state, regulatory, and accrediting body requirements
  • Assist with development and implementation of standard operating procedures and training programs
  • Maintain laboratory safety practices and regulatory compliance standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, or a related field
  • 6-8 years of experience as a Medical Technologist or Laboratory Supervisor
  • Florida Supervisor License in Hematology
  • Certification from a recognized laboratory certifying body (such as ASCP or AMT)
