Overview

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Data Analyst III to join its growing Medical Economics team. This is a remote opportunity, ideal for candidates located in CST or EST time zones. If you're on the West Coast, you'll need to align your schedule to CST hours.

This position plays a key role in analyzing complex healthcare data to uncover insights that influence key decisions and strategies. The right candidate will be a problem-solver, detail-oriented, and able to translate data into actionable recommendations for improving healthcare outcomes and controlling costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze diverse datasets (claims, provider, member, and encounter data) to identify trends and drive business insights.
  • Develop and troubleshoot SQL-based scripts, reports, and Excel models to support financial and operational decision-making.
  • Design and implement process improvements, with a focus on automation and efficiency.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis on data irregularities and present findings to leadership.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver analytical solutions.
  • Lead large-scale analytics projects with minimal supervision.
  • Present data-driven recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior analysts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, statistics, mathematics, public health, finance, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in data analytics, data management, or related fields (or 2+ years in IT roles).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL with the ability to write complex queries and manage large datasets.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, Power Query, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, nesting formulas).
  • Experience with Power BI, DAX, and Power Pivot.
  • Prior exposure to healthcare analytics and medical economics concepts.
  • Understanding of healthcare payment methodologies (e.g., DRG, APC, EAPG).

Preferred Skills

  • Programming skills in Python or R.
  • Knowledge of managed care, Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace analytics.
  • Experience evaluating Medical Loss Ratio (MLR), Quality and Affordability Initiatives (QAI), and healthcare KPIs.
  • Background in actuarial analysis or consulting within healthcare is a plus.
